A fire destroyed a doublewide mobile home on CR 385 early Tuesday morning.

The family woke up to the smell of smoke shortly after 2 a.m. and saw flames in the kitchen before running out of the house, Erath County Fire Rescue Coordinator Chris Gable said. No one was injured in the blaze, but the family reportedly lost two dogs.

Gable said fire crews arrived on scene quickly, but it was too late to save the family’s home.

“By the time we got there, it was completely involved,” Gable said. “At that point, our main objective was to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes.”

On Tuesday afternoon, fire crews were called back to the scene after the fire reignited. Jamie Green, a relative, said the family is grateful they escaped unharmed.

“At this point, we are just glad that what was lost was material,” Green said. “They lost everything.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
