One man is dead and another in critical condition following a one-vehilce accident Saturday afternoon.
Cody Allen Burns, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident - about 12 miles south of Stephenville on FM 914 - by Justice of the Peace Bart Greenway, Pct. 2.
Burns was reportedly a cattle worker who lived in the Stephenville area.
According to Sr. Trooper Dub Gillum with the Texas Department of Public Safety, a passenger in the vehicle, Eric Tello, 22, was listed in critical condition after sustaining head injuries. Gillum said Tello was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Stephenville. His current location and condition are not known.
Tello is reportedly a Dublin resident.
Gillum said the accident occurred just before 5 p.m., and according to the accident report, the 1999 Chevrolet Pickup driven by Burns was traveling westbound on CR 522 when the vehicle left the roadway to the south, rolled and ejected Burns and Tello. Gillum said neither man was wearing a seat belt.
The Fort Worth Star-Telgram reported a third passenger, who was located in the back seat, was wearing a seat belt and escaped without serious injury.
In his obituary, found online at www.mayfieldkiserfuneralhome.com, said Burns was a graduate of Crowley High School and attended both Weatherford College and Tarleton State University. Cody was employed by Lone Oak Cattle Company in Stephenville.
A funeral for Burns will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, at 509 West Peach Street in Crowley, according to the Star-Telegram. Visitation will be held at the church from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday.
According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Burns was the brother of Fort Worth council member Joel Burns.
