A Tarleton State University graduate was one of two sailors killed in an Aug. 23 car accident in San Diego, CA.

Seth Hartin, 25, graduated with a business degree from Tarleton in August 2008, according to university officials.

Hartin's sister, Carey, told the San Diego Union Tribune that after her brother graduated, he joined the Navy "to see the world."

Hartin grew up in Bangs, where his parents, Gene and Gwen Hartin, and his two sisters still live.

Hartin's body will be flown back to Texas from San Diego today, according to the Union Tribune. A funeral is scheduled for Friday in Early.

Hartin was traveling with Brian Davis, 20, of St. Petersburg, Fla., when the accident occurred. Both men were students at Naval Base Point Loma and were just days away from a scheduled leave, the Union Tribune reported.

The two were traveling in a Corvette that Davis was driving when it became airborne and landed on its roof on Interstate 5. Witnesses told the California Highway Patrol that the vehicle was traveling about 100 mph, the Union Tribune reported.

The Medical Examiner's Officer issued a report that drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.
