Sharpen your steak knives and get ready for a Texas-sized steak eatin’, music listenin’, street danicin’, downtown barbeque. The Fifth Annual Texas Steak Cook-off, Beef Symposium and Tourist trap will be held Saturday in Hico.

The annual event, which welcomed more than 6,000 attendees to the streets of Hico last year, offers a slew of interesting chefs competing for the title of best ribeye steak cooked in Texas.

Also on the menu is a family-friendly good time, including artisan vendors, local shopping and a chance to explore historic Hico, said to be the last home of Billy the Kid.

The streets will rock with live entertainment throughout the day. The Quebe Sisters will headline the event, with entertainment also being provided by Nashville recording artist Ronica Coldiron and the James Black Band. Hico’s legendary storyteller, poet, and balladeer, Bob Sawyer, will entertain during dinnertime.

According to the event’s Web site www.texassteakcookoff.com, the venue is a competition for the best preparation and presentation of a 12-ounce Choice Texas ribeye Steak. There are five categories; “Celebrity Chefs” - open by invitation to chefs who have accomplished notoriety and fame within the recognized top food achievements; “Professional Chefs” - open to professionals in the restaurant business who own and/or cook; “Backyard Chefs” - open to the true amateur competitor, artist who believe their preparation of the steak is the best in Texas.

Cameras will be rolling at this year’s cook-off as crews from the Food Channel will be on hand following the as they fire up a flaming good time.

Whether you like your steak bloody or burnt to a crisp, the event will serve a good time and great food for only $25 at the gate or $20 in advance at any Hico merchant or online at www.texassteakcookoff.com.

Your ticket price guarantees a dinner complete with a 12-ounce choice ribeye and all the fixin’s plus a chance to win a John Deere Gator or a Hasty-Bake Grill. The event kicks off at noon.
