A public hearing on wind turbines within the city limits drew little attention at Tuesday night's meeting of the Stephenville City Council.

Only one community member spoke on the issue. Web Lockwood, co-owner of Security Storage on Glen Rose Road, presented brochures detailing the benefits of wind energy and said he would like to install a generator at his business.

Lockwood was accompanied by Charles Crumpley, the CEO of a Dallas-based company that sells and installs wind turbines. Crumpley presented a slide show which also explained the benefits of wind power and showed the evolution of wind turbines.

Following the hearing, Mayor Nancy Hunter, with the support of the council, referred the topic and a draft zoning ordinance prepared by the Planning and Zoning Commission to the council's Planning and Development Committee for further review.

The Planning and Development Committee will meet next Tuesday to discuss the issue.
