Special to the E-T

The Erath County United Way held a “Stuff the Bus” school supply drive in conjunction with the National United Way Day of Action on June 21.

The drive consisted of three public collection sites in Stephenville at HEB, Staples, and Wal-Mart and one public collection site in Dublin at the Dollar General. Area high school students earned community service hours by manning the collection sites and local United Way board members were on site to help coordinate and answer questions.

The first annual “Stuff the Bus” drive was a huge success collecting more than 1,400 items and over $300 in cash donations to be used to purchase more supplies.

Local Executive Director Angela Haynes said, “Our community is such a generous one. Strong support is given to the Erath County United Way and its efforts each year and community members really stepped up to make this event a success.”

All of the donated supplies have been inventoried and additional supplies have been purchased. The Erath County United Way will distribute bags of common school supplies to area students pre-k- 2nd grade from 9 a.m.-noon Tuesday at H.O.P.E., located at 1517 E. Washington Street.
