Trey Haggard, 26, couldn’t stop grinning as he gazed at the new life he held in his arms Friday morning.

In just an hour and a half after entering the world it was clear - the love affair between daddy and daughter had already begun - just in time for Father’s Day.

Reese Ann Haggard rushed into the world at 8:45 a.m. weighing 7 pounds, 7 ounces with a length of 19 inches.

Haggard said his wife, Tracey, awakened him at 1 a.m. to report labor had begun. The baby wasn’t expected until June 22. The couple arrived at the hospital about 5:30 a.m. and it was already too late for Tracey to receive an epidural for pain relief. She said she had wanted a big family but during the birth she told her husband that she thought their child might be an only child. She grinned, too.

Haggard laughed and said he wanted two more.

“I wasn’t expecting to have a baby today,” Haggard said. “She’s beautiful.”

When asked how he felt when he first saw his little girl, he said, “I was amazed. It was unbelievable.”

Haggard is a credit analyst at Comanche National Bank and a Stephenville native. He graduated from Stephenville High School and earned a degree from Tarleton State University.

Haggard said he didn’t really have any fears over being a dad.

“I’ll follow in the footsteps of my dad - he did a good job with me,” Haggard said. “He always told me to get an education.”

Like his dad, he said, he will also stress education to his daughter along with religion.

“I hope she’ll be a pro golfer,” Haggard chuckled. “No, just strong and healthy and she can do whatever she wants.”
