Morgan Mill is getting ready for the Stephenville Fourth of July Parade. The kids of the volunteer firemen and first responders will be riding on the two fire trucks. You need to be at the Tarleton Stadium parking lot at 8:30. Wear your purple Morgan Mill T-shirt and help wave a flag in the parade.
Senior Citizens will be celebrating the fourth on the fifth with Anna Watson’s traditional patriotic program. She always entertains us with history, song, and poetry. In addition, Joanne and Chet Ball’s daughter will present a short program on her job as border patrol on the Canadian border. Come enjoy with your neighbors always a flavorful potluck dish supper. As always, seven o’clock will be the starting time.
Summer reading is a must for these rainy summer afternoons. Yvonne Lindenmeier recommends three "must reads". Janet Evanovich’s newest, Lean Mean Thirteen, is a hit. Yvonne also likes all of Earline Fowler’s books, especially the new Tumbling Blocks. The Penn-Dutch Mysteries by Tamar Myers will keep you entertained this summer. Thanks, Yvonne for your latest tips.
Sometimes during the summer, one needs a one day get-away. By recommendation from Miralu and Fred Zimmermann, Homestead Heritage near Waco at Elm Mott meets the challenge. From IH-35, take Exit 343 and turn west on FM 308. Go 3 miles to FM 933 and turn right (north) onto FM 933 and go 1 _ miles to Halbert Lane. Homestead has brick-oven baked breads in the deli and its own restored 1760’s gristmill. A walking tour will take you to the blacksmith shop, hand tool woodworking shop, a working homestead with herbs and vegetable gardens, and a pottery shop. The hours are 10 to 6pm Monday through Saturday. If you arrive early, you will also have time to visit the city of Salado, one my all-time favorite places to spend the day. Of course, one can not go through the town of West without picking up a supply of kolaches for that afternoon snack.
Vacation Bible School is getting closer. July 16 at the Community Center, the kids, ages from kindergarten to sixth grade, will find a treasure hunt of activities. Morgan Mill Methodist Church will have four days of the Adventures of the Treasure Seekers. There will be an archaeological dig with daily Discovery Digs into the Bible. Morgan Mill Baptist will follow with an evening Vacation Bible School entitled, "Game Day" starting August 6 through 10th from 6 pm to 9. Everyone is always welcome in Morgan Mill.
Thanks to all the Morgan Mill volunteer firemen and first responders for keeping the area citizenship safe during the recent rains. They were blocking flooded roads, directing traffic, and rescuing stranded homeowners. Several of the guys spent the night helping Hood County rescue teams evacuate houses.
