While visions of sugar plums dance in the heads of many this time of year, political hopefuls are conjuring up visions of their own.

It might be hard to imagine, but election season is once again upon us - and so is the time to begin filing for a slew of area races.

Incumbents and challengers can file their notarized applications with the appropriate party chairman from 8 a.m. Thursday through 6 p.m. Jan. 4, 2010.

The primary election will be held March 2 and the general election will be held Nov. 2.

Several elected county officials are up for re-election including District Court Judge Don Jones (Democrat), District Clerk Wanda Pringle (Republican), County Judge Tab Thompson (Republican), County Treasurer Donna Kelly (Democrat), County Clerk Gwinda Jones (Republican), County Court at Law Judge Bart McDougal (Democrat), Justice of the Peace Precincts 1, 3 and 4 Shawnee Bass (Republican), Justice of the Peace Precinct  2 Latrelle Cain (Democrat), County Commissioner Precinct 2 Lynn Tidwell (Democrat) and County Commissioner Precinct 4 Randy Lowe (Democrat).

When contacted about their re-election bid, all of the incumbents said they will seek another term.

Judge Cain, who is seeking her fourth term, said she is ready to face whatever challenges lie ahead.

“I’ve got my ‘running’ shoes on,” Cain said, laughing.
