Junior forward Brittnie Haley made her long-awaited return to the hardwood for the Tarleton TexAnns (1-0) in their 64-38 season-opening victory over Texas-Permian Basin (0-1) at Wisdom Gym Tuesday night.

The 6-0 forward from Duncanville returned from major knee surgery, which kept her out all of last season, and didn’t miss a beat. Haley posted a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

“I didn’t expect (a double-double), but I probably should have,” said Taleton head coach Ronnie Hearne. “She’s looked real good the last couple weeks. Now we just need to get her stamina back up.”

UTPB jumped on the board first with a 3-point bomb from Andrea Chavez, but the TexAnns answered with 18 straight points to take command for the rest of the contest.

The TexAnn lead never got lower than 12 points en route to the win.

In addition to Haley, Tara Towns (13), Sonya Sundberg (12) , Morgan Stehling (11) and JoAnne Jones (13) posted double figures.

This win marks victory No. 101 at Tarleton for Hearne.

The TexAnns travel to Denton where they meet Pittsburg State at 5 p.m. Friday for the opening round of classic-style tourney play at Texas Woman’s University.
