A 16-year-old made a call for help Monday when he witnessed two juveniles in the driveway of his Park Street residence attempting to destroy a vehicle in the driveway.
According to Stephenville Police Chief Roy Halsell, the teen made the call around 6:30 p.m. when he saw the two suspects pouring a liquid onto a pickup. Halsell said the teen reported that as he exited the home, he heard one of the suspects say 'hurry up, light it!'
The juveniles then fled the scene.
Halsell said when a police officer arrived at the scene, he detected the scent of lighter fluid on the pickup.
The officer also reported that the teen said he recognized one of the juveniles.
"He said he had been involved in a dispute with the family of one juveniles," Halsell said.
Halsell said Tuesday that the darting duo is facing charges of attempted arson.
For now however, Halsell said the police department is working to obtain a written statement from the owner of the pickup as well as the teen witness before pursing charges related to the property crime.
