Today is the last chance to join the 12 candidates who have so far signed up to run for various seats on the Stephenville City Council.
With just hours left until the filing deadline, five people are seeking the office of mayor. Four of those candidates, including Nancy Hunter, Mark Murphy, Barry Ratliff and Pat Shelbourne, are currently serving on the council. Joe Cude, a former council member, is also in the race.
Meanwhile, a three-man race has taken shape in Place 4, with Chris Gifford, a salesman; Russ McDanel, a letter carrier; and Don Zelman, a Tarleton State University professor, vying for the spot.
Former councilman Scott Evans who is running for Place 8 drew an opponent late Friday afternoon when Virginia Abel, a substitute teacher, filed paperwork.
Place 2 councilman Malcolm Cross is also up for re-election, but has not drawn an opponent, while Alan Nix remains the only candidate running for Place 6.
Candidates interested in filing can do so at City Hall until 5 p.m.
