Investigators are asking for the public’s help in solving a case that resulted in the theft of a late-model all-terrain vehicle from a rural Erath County residence.

Sgt. Larry Wand of the Erath County Sheriff’s Department says very few leads have turned up from the theft, that reportedly occurred between March 9 and 16, in the 11000 block of FM 847 near the intersection of CR 277.

The investigator said a homeowner called dispatch on March 17 to report that his 2005 John Deere 6x6 Gator had been taken from his carport while the individual was out of town.

“This thing has a yellow cab on it with a heater and windshield wipers,” said Wand. “It’s not known how the Gator was stolen. The thief probably drove it off the property.”

Wand says the Gator, complete with a dump-bed and similar in appearance to a four-wheeler, only with six wheels, is quite unique due to having a cab on top. The ATV was estimated to be valued at approximately $7,000.

“If anyone has any information about this theft, we’d ask they contact the Erath County Sheriff’s Department or the local Crime Stoppers hotline,” said Wand.
