You may have noticed a few extra hats, boots, trucks and trailers around Stephenville last week.

This can be attributed to the USCRA National Finals, held at the Lone Star Arena Sept. 19-23. This is not just any calf roping; this is the largest calf-roping event in the entire world.

The event brought cowboys and cowgirls from across the United States to Stephenville to compete for a multitude of cash and awards. As the stiff competition came to an end, a few locals came out as winners. Terry Davidson of Dublin captured the crown of the 00 Champion for 2007 and was the winner of the horse trailer sponsored by Stephenville Chamber of Commerce and Bruner Motors. Kylee Burrus of Stephenville was also among those crowned at the conclusion of the event, winning the semi-finals in the breakaway roping.

If you missed the action this past week, mark your calendar for September 2008, because Lanham and Tracy Mangold, owners of the USCRA, have already committed to bringing the USCRA National Finals back to the Cowboy Capital of the World.
