Those who want to get started on their Christmas shopping and avoid the hassle of the Metroplex might want to consider buying gifts from local artisans.
In what has become an annual tradition for Erath County crafters, the Zonta Club of Stephenville and the city’s Parks and Recreation Department is hosting the annual Arts & Crafts Fair at Stephenville City Park this weekend.
Shoppers will be greeted by an array of gifts as peddlers present their wares and offer goodies for boys and girls of all ages. Everything from jewelry and wood and ironwork to homemade quilts, candles and soaps will fill the booths.
And forget the high priced snack bar at the shopping mall’s food court. The ladies of the Zonta Club will have a variety of eats and treats at an affordable price. Menu items will include famous “Zonta burgers,” cornbread and red beans, Chitchi Fambro’s renowned chicken salad and pimento cheese sandwiches, as well as chips, drinks and sweets.
Along with the snack bar, Zontians are raffling off a huge basket of gift items, filled to the brim with goodies. Tickets will be available at the front desk at the recreation hall or can be purchased from any club member for $1 per ticket. The drawing will be held Sunday afternoon and you don’t have to be present to win.
“The snack bar and raffle help the Zonta Club raise money to support many charitable organizations,” club member Virginia Bill said, adding that the arts and crafts event is the first of three annual fundraisers for the club. “Funds raised by Zonta help support three Tarleton State University scholarships, six Erath County high school scholarships, the Erath County United Way, American Cancer Society, Hope, literacy, Toys for Tots, the Erath Junior Livestock Show, Habitat for Humanity, Fosters Home for Children and many other local organizations.”
According to Tracy Riggs, coordinator for the city of Stephenville, this year’s show is sure to please. Riggs said every booth is booked and many more vendors are on a waiting list.
The fair, which will be held underneath the pavilions at City Park and inside the rec hall, will be open 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday and noon-4 p.m. Sunday.
