Question: What kind of person would steal from the Boy Scouts?

Answer: One apparently in the market for some camping equipment.

Stephenville police are investigating the case of a stolen trailer belonging to Boy Scout Troop 68. Authorities recovered the abandoned trailer on County Road 184 on Oct. 12.

“I didn't even know it was missing,” said troop leader Terry Jones, adding the trailer was parked at the Boy Scout hut located on E. Long Street just two days before it was found.

The trailer was not damaged, but all of its camping equipment was gone.

“My first thought was, ‘What kind of person steals from the Boy Scouts?'”

Jones said.

The Boy Scout troop consists of approximately 40 youth ranging in age from 11-17. Jones said three propane tanks, a tent, tent poles, cook stoves and sleeping bags among the items taken.

Anyone who would like to help the troop replace the stolen camping gear should contact Terry Jones at 965-3602.
