Stephenville police are searching for a man who apparently attempted to assault a Tarleton State University student early Monday morning.

The female student was at the North Park Apartments, located at 1585 W. Frey Street, when an unknown male approached her in the parking lot about 4:30 a.m.

According to a press release issued by police, the male suspect placed his hand on her and she began to scream. The suspect then attempted to cover her mouth, but the woman was able to get away and flee to her residence, where she called police.

"It happened very fast and the victim did not get a good look at the suspect," said Lt. Doug McClammy.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 6 feet tall with dark hair. He was last seen wearing a blue T-shirt, blue jeans and a dark colored baseball cap. He was possibly driving a white crew cab pickup.

McClammy said there are no suspects and the investigation remains ongoing.

Anyone with information should call Stephenville police at 918-1200 or Crime Stoppers at 965-CASH.
