It's that time of year again - turkey time!
For those diligently planning the perfect Thanksgiving feast, working to ensure that a cornucopia of festive dishes greet your dinner guests, the Masons have the turkey covered - fried turkey that is.
Stephenville Masonic Lodge No. 267 has already tallied more than 100 orders in their seventh annual Turkey Fundraiser, and although Thanksgiving is less than a week away, it's not too late to get yours. But the clock is ticking and only 200 turkeys will be sold - meaning there are only 100 still available for purchase.
John Musgrove, secretary of the Stephenville Lodge, said in addition to ensuring that community members get a taste of the best turkey around, the annual event is a philanthropic one. Proceeds from the fundraiser are kept within the community, and beneficiaries include one Stephenville High School senior who will be awarded a $1,000 scholarship.
And with almost a decade of turkey-frying experience, Musgrove said the Thanksgiving Eve operation has become a well-oiled machine. He said the Masons line up for their assigned duties, with some taking on the task of handling raw birds while others handle the finished product to ensure health and safety.
Musgrove said the turkeys weigh 10-12 pounds each, and you can get one for just $35 each. The turkeys will be fried and ready for pickup from the Lodge, located at 244 South Columbia Street in Stephenville, on Wednesday.
Musgrove said every order comes labeled with specific reheating instructions to ensure that your turkey is perfectly moist and juicy for your feast.
To order a fried turkey, call the Lodge at 254-965-4175 and leave a message with your name and phone number. A Mason will call you back to verify your order as soon as possible.
Musgrove said if you're a procrastinator you will surely miss out. Once the turkeys are gone, a message will let you know not to wait on a return call.
