On Saturday, the Stephenville Post Office will host a Passport Fair. The event, scheduled from 9 a.m.-noon, will provide information to citizens about applying for a passport and what is required of passport holders. The post office will also accept passport applications.
With the government recently mandating that U.S. citizens carry a passport to cross both the Canadian and the Mexican borders, passport applications have become necessary for more travelers.
“We are happy to leverage the convenience of the postal service and partner with the Department of State to help our customers apply for passports,” said Lisa Montfort, postmaster.
Those wishing to apply for a passport can expedite the process by printing off a passport application form online at www.travel.state.gov or by following the links on www.usps.com/passport/. Once the form has been filled out, all applicants must do is return the form to an appropriate return center, such as the Stephenville Post Office, and bring with them all the forms required for approval of their application. These forms include birth certificates, photo identification and a recent photograph of the individual. If the applicant is a child under the age of 16, both parents or guardians must sign their form.
Application forms are also available at select post offices and at select state buildings. For questions about passports or passport applications, call the National Passport Information Center at 1-877-487-2778.
