With massive state budget cuts in education looming, the Dublin ISD board of trustees will meet Thursday to discuss the employment of several key positions within the district.

After meeting with the board in closed session, Superintendent Shaun Barnett is expected to make contract recommendations for teachers, coaches, band directors, counselors, the school nurse, educational diagnosticians and the speech and language pathologist.

Administrators returned to campus Monday after spring break and have been busy preparing for Thursday's meeting.

"We've been busy the past two days, and I am still preparing my recommendations for the very big board meeting," Barnett said Tuesday.

He may have already arrived, however, at a decision on probationary teaching contracts.

"We will not be terminating all of our probationary teachers," Barnett said, adding that it is possible some educators will not return to the district in the fall.

The board will also consider several policy updates regarding distance education, college course work and dual credit programs and other instructional methods.

The board will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school library.
