Keith Samuel Houston, 33, was arrested Tuesday after allegedly severely beating a four-year-old boy.
“The bruising was severe across the buttocks,” Detective Alan Williamson of the Stephenville Police Department said. “It covered the complete buttock area and went beyond a normal spanking for disciplinary reasons.”
Williamson said Child Protective Services had received information regarding the child’s condition and so had police. Houston is believed to be the boyfriend of the mother of the child.
Because the mother did not cause the injury, or know about the injury until later, the child was left in the custody of the mother, Williamson said.
Williamson said both the mother and Houston were interviewed through the course of the investigation and at that time Houston reportedly admitted that he was the one that injured the child.
Williamson said Houston has a prior criminal history but not related to child abuse. Officer Benny Payne was the investigating and arresting officer.
“CPS personnel and Officer Payne did a great job of investigating the incident,” Williamson said.
Houston was charged with injury to a child and is being held in the Erath County Jail on a $15,000 bond.
