The Girl Scouts of Central Texas are celebrating 97 years of scouting this week and are hosting a “Skating for Scouting” party Thursday from 6-8 p.m.
With 111 Girl Scouts in Erath County, troopers and troop leaders alike are hoping to raise funds to help keep their programs running. Scouts are required to raise at least one-third of their budget through financial donations.
To help the scouts raise money, the community is invited to the Stephenville Roller Rink to enjoy two hours of skating action for only $5 per person.
“We just wanted something to offer kids and families to do during Spring Break,” said Kelly Sult, service unit director for Erath County. “This is a really fun way for us to raise some funding.”
In addition to being held on the organization’s 97th birthday, the event also corresponds with National Girl Scout Week.
“We set the event on Thursday because March 12 is the exact day of the first Girl Scout meeting that was held in Atlanta,” said Sult.
