E-T Staff Report

Election officials characterized the first week of early voting as “steady,” but still down from what many hope will be an unusually high turnout.

By Friday, only 572 had cast ballots in Stephenville. On the ballot are 14 candidates vying for the mayor’s seat, three city council places and one school board place.

There are 8,579 registered voters in the city, but on average only 1,100 - 1,200 participate in most city elections, according to city secretary Cindy Stafford.

Early voting and Election Day voting will take place at the Erath County Courthouse. Polls will be open from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m., today and Tuesday.

Election Day polls will be open from 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. Saturday. See Sunday’s edition of the Empire-Tribune for complete coverage on the election results.
