Time is running out for anyone interested in campaigning for city council or school board. Monday is the last day for political hopefuls to enter the May 9 race, and several places remain uncontested.
In the race for Stephenville City Council, Joe Cude is the sole candidate vying to replace Pat Shelbourne in Place 1.
Don Zelman, elected to the council in May to fill an unexpired term, is hoping to get re-elected to his spot in Place 3. Zelman is being challenged by Virginia Abel, who is trying for the fourth time to get elected to the council.
In Place 5, incumbent Alan Nash has filed to keep his spot, but is facing a challenge by Elizabeth Baxter.
Two are also in the race for Place 7. Mark Murphy has filed to keep his seat, but Martha Cashon said she wants it too.
Anyone interested in submitting an application to run for city council can do so until 5 p.m. Monday at City Hall.
In the race for the Stephenville Independent School Board, only one spot is contested with Todd McEvoy and Doug Svien both gunning for Place 3. Place 3 incumbent Susan Hutchins said she will not seek re-election.
Gary Sult is still the only candidate vying for Place 1 and Toby Mills is the only one who has filed for Place 2.
Spring break begins this week, but the SISD administration building will be open from 2-5 p.m. Monday for last minute hopefuls to submit applications.
