Stephenville Police Chief Patrick Bridges credits a tipster for helping officers thwart an attempted burglary at TexStar Ford.
Bridges said dispatch received a call about 10 p.m. Tuesday reporting that suspicious men were inside a fence on the dealer's property.
"When the officers arrived, they saw two men on the property carrying automotive batteries in each hand," Bridges said.
When officers shined a light on them, the men took off, leading officers on a foot chase through the property.
The suspects jumped into a black pickup parked on the side of the road and fled the scene before they were stopped a short time later by another officer called for backup.
Three people were taken into custody including William Edward Teddlie, 39, Eric Mark Wilson, 21, and Michele Gay Freeman, 30, all of Granbury. The trio was charged with engaging in organized criminal activity. Teddlie and Wilson were also charged with evading arrest.
The suspects were released from the Erath County Jail after posting bond.
Bridges said the batteries were taken from the dealership property and have been returned to the owner.
