“I finally made it. I don’t think you are going to be able to wipe the smile off my face,” Gary Sult said of qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
Sult achieved his long-awaited goal Sunday at the White Rock Lake Marathon in Dallas with a time of 3 hours, 29 minutes and 50 seconds.
The qualifying time comes as a relief to Sult, who has been attempting to cash in on running since early this year. He missed qualifying at the San Antonio Rock and Roll Marathon by nine seconds last month.
“As far as any athletic accomplishment I have ever had, it was above all others,” Sult said.
Now, Sult looks forward to relishing in his accomplishment. He will, however, have to wait an additional year to travel to Boston.
“The 2010 Boston Marathon is already full,” Sult said. “My plans now are to wait until 2011.”
The Boucher, Morgan and Young employee said the April race is a tight fit for him, but thankfully it won’t interfere with the 2011 tax season.
“It’s kind of difficult for me because it’s the third Monday of April, always right around the 15th,” Sult said.
But April 15 falls on a Friday in 2011 so Sult will suit up and run in Boston.
“I am still ok and I can make it,” Sult said.
Sult said he he will take it easy now on the running path, at least for another year.
“The relief is just amazing because I can go run and enjoy myself a little bit more now rather than stressing,” he said.
