The democratic process played out in the office of Dublin ISD Superintendent Shaun Barnett Tuesday when the name of Dublin’s next representative on the Erath County Appraisal District board of directors was drawn from a hat.
The term of Katherine Prater, who has served on the ECAD board since 2000, will expire on Dec. 31.
Her replacement, Jeff Weaver, will be sworn in at the board’s January meetings.
The draw came after the Dublin City Council recently voted to reappoint Prater to the board while the DISD board of trustees voted to appoint Weaver to the position.
Since the two taxing entities could not come to a mutual agreement as to who would represent them on the appraisal board, both of the appointees’ names were put into a hat.
Dublin Mayor Tom Gordon, City Administrator Jerry Guillory, Barnett and Chief Appraiser Jerry Lee were all present. Pam Black, administrative assistant to the DISD, pulled Weaver’s name from the hat at 2 p.m.
Barnett and Gordon said the city council and school board have both established protocol for Weaver in his new role. He will be expected to attend meetings of each of the entities on a quarterly basis and deliver reports on ECAD happenings and keep them informed on any hot topics discussed at appraisal board meetings.By AMANDA KIMBLE
