Two four-letter words — rain and heat — dominated the local weather scene in July.

Rain was the popular item during the first and latter part of the month. Heat, in excess of 100 degrees, reared its ugly head during the late days in July and continues.

July’s rainfall totaled 6.78 inches, which may have been the wettest July on record. The July total was 4.58 inches above the average amount of 2.20 inches for the month.

Moisture fell on 12 dates, equaling the number of rainy days as recorded in April. The July total pushed the first seven-month total to 23.63 inches, which is 4.03 inches above the average amount (19.60 inches) for the initial seven months.

The 2010 seven-month total is the most for a similar period since 34.70 inches were noted in 2007.
