Now is the time to get involved with the community’s youth by getting active in a club that provides lots of kids with lots of encouragement.

I’m talking about the Stephenville Athletic Booster Club, of course.

The Stephenville Athletic Booster Club is a volunteer organization that was formed years ago by individuals who care about sports. The organization supports Henderson Junior High and Stephenville High School athletics.

Kyle Fornes is the 2007-08 president and said the organization functions under the “strong belief” that athletics play a vital role in the development of children.

“It teaches them teamwork, self-sacrifice, and healthy competition,” he said. “It also forges strong friendships and teaches valuable lessons such as respect for authority.”

The booster club is now welcoming new members. Fornes said any family or business can join by filling out membership and program forms.

As the mother of boys who enjoy athletics, I’ll be the first to tell you there is nothing I enjoy more than watching my kids play sports. It brings families and communities together like nothing else.

The club is now accepting members. Go to our newspaper’s Web site to join at www.empiretribune.com. After all, there’s no better way to serve the community than by supporting its kids.
