Mike Hicks has joined Ken Drowzeski in the race for Ward 1 on the Dublin City Council.

"I will speak up and do what needs to be done for the city of Dublin," Hicks said.

Changes to some of the city's codes and ordinances are among the issues Hicks hopes to address if elected.

Hicks said parts of the ordinances adopted in 2008 relating to plumbing, electrical and gas permits are flawed and can't be properly enforced. He said contractors find it hard to work in Dublin and some codes do not fall in line with industry standards.

"I am involved in construction and know the specific industry standards," Hicks said.

Hicks owns and operates Hicks Construction.

Improvements to city park and children's areas, such as the baseball fields, are also on Hicks' agenda.

Drowzeski served as a sergeant on the Dublin police force until 2010 when he left to join the Greenville Police Department.

Drowzeski was not available for comment.

The last day to file to run for city council is Monday, March 14.

"I will lock the door to city hall at five o'clock sharp," city secretary Rhonda Williams said.
