A man accused of stalking singer/songwriter Jewel has been found incompetent to stand trial, his court-appointed attorney Nick Pugh said.
Pugh said Michael Lawrance Kozelka, 50, was evaluated by two doctors and will now be sent to a state hospital where he will receive medical treatment.
“This case is essentially over,” Pugh said, adding that Kozelka will not face trial or jail time. “I believe this was the best outcome for this case. This man really needs medical attention.”
Kozelka was arrested Sept. 15 by Erath County sheriff’s deputies at the main house of the ranch owned by Jewel and her husband Ty Murray.
He was later charged with stalking and held on a $30,000 bond.
Kozelka claimed that God led him to Jewel’s home.
