A local student and lamb cashed in at the State Fair of Texas Friday. Stephenville High School senior Alyssa Spruill walked away with the Grand Champion title following last Wednesday's show and a wad of cash from Friday's auction.

In making the announcement across SISD, SHS Principal Travis Stilwell called the "big news" something to brag about at home in the City of (Grand) Champions.

"Alyssa is sporting a shiny belt buckle," Stilwell said. "This is a huge accomplishment for a great kid!"

According to Laurah Williams, Stephenville FFA sponsor and ag teacher, Spruill did "very well" at the show and her cash prize should "pay for a year at Texas A&M University."

The recent win was not the first for Spruill, but it is her first major show success.

While the prized lamb was not born locally, and came from a friend's farm in Oklahoma, the lamb was relocated to the family's Erath County lamb and goat farm, Spruill Farms, at 60 days days old.
