FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — A North Texas bus driver and bus attendant have resigned after they overlooked a 5-year-old special needs student who sat strapped in his bus seat for five hours.
Fort Worth school district spokesman Clint Bond says the bus stopped at an elementary school on Oct. 15 where the attendant should have unstrapped the child so he could exit the bus.
But the attendant remained in her seat and the bus continued on to a middle school and high school.
At the end of the route, the attendant checked the bus but somehow overlooked the child.
The driver later parked the bus, left and then discovered the boy when she came back in the afternoon.
Bond says the driver was "very distraught" after realizing the child had been left alone.
The child was physically unharmed.
