The Amarillo Wesley Community Center's largest fundraising event, Una Gran Cena, starts at 6 p.m. The annual fundraising event is a 67 year tradition in Amarillo.

"All of the proceeds raised from this event go directly to support our programs that service youth, families and senior citizens in our community," said Liz Alaniz, WCC executive director. "It's critical that we raise money at this event in order to help sustain the center."

The WCC supports affordable programs -- childcare, after school, summer camp, social services, the Behind the Scenes Youth Modeling and Mentoring program, Wesley Club wrestling, and the senior citizens center -- for the city of Amarillo. There is no limit on the clients they see and Alaniz says they serve an average of 1,000 unduplicated clients monthly.

Amarillo's David Elizalde, owner of David's Quality Electric and David's Quality Contracting is the keynote speaker for the dinner.

"He embodies the Wesley Community Center -- he's overcome obstacles in order to reach his highest potential," Alaniz said. "He does a lot for our community and he's perfect for the message that we try to convey at this event."

400 people are expected in the Great Hall of Polk Street United Methodist Church for the dinner Thursday. Limited seating is still available for $40 per ticket. Call the WCC for more information, 806-372-7960.
