When Chief Deputy Cody Keith lost his hair during another round of chemotherapy, Sheriff Matt Coates decided to join him.
“I had Woodrow’s Barber Shop shave my head because Denys (his wife) was afraid she would cut me,” Coates joked. “She said she didn’t want to be the reason I have another scar on my head.”
Keith said he was touched by his boss’ gesture and posted a picture of the two on his Facebook page on Wednesday.
“Life the last few years has been anything but easy,” Keith wrote. “But one thing that has never faltered is the continued love and support I have received from my family, friends, and community. The other day at work Sheriff Coates asked me to take a ride with him. I knew where we were going and thought he was joking, but he was not. We stopped off at a barber shop where he had them cut off all his hair in support of me losing mine to chemo. Thank you Matt Coates for your continued support. Words can’t describe what it meant to me.”
Coates said he is amazed by Keith’s strength and determination to continue his battle with cancer while working.
“He is the same old Cody, always upbeat and cheery,” Coates said. “All of us have been touched by cancer in some way or another, and you feel helpless. All I knew to do was shave my head so he is not the only one bald at the office.”
