There was a nice break from the heat in Morgan Mill Saturday during the annual ice cream freeze off.

The event raised money for Harmony (Morgan Mill), Lingleville and Clariette Masonic lodges. Burgers, hot dogs and sausage were also served.

There were 16 entries this year for the homemade ice cream contest. The following judges helped decide the winners: Sheriff Matt Coates, Wanda Pringle, Russ McDanel, Julie Crouch Smith and KayLee Pemberton.

The judges had a hard time choosing the top three.

“It was hard to decide and I’m extremely full,” said Sheriff Coates.

The winners were: 1st Place Theresa Hutchins with her chocolate almond, 2nd place Theresa Hutchins with butter pecan and 3rd place went to Blanton Jones’s banana nut recipe.

“The contest is totally blind judging folks I promise,” Johnnie Hutchins assured the crowd.

Live music was provided by David Hedrick and Tim Turnbeaugh.

Pat Soderline won the special door prize, a Savage Axis 243 deer rifle.

“I truly believe this was our biggest year ever and it was so much fun,” said Hutchins.
