If your furry friend needs a little help learning to behave, Basic Becky’s Obedience Dog Training has got you covered.
Kaitlyn Ruderer owns and operates the business and gives private and group lessons to dog owners.
“I do behavioral training that includes basic obedience like sit, stay, come and lay down,” she said. “I recently had a client whose dog wouldn’t stop jumping on people, so I worked with them and while accomplishing that (learning not to jump), the dog learned other basic commands.”
Ruderer teaches classes from 5:30-6:30 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays at Optimist-Jaycee Park. She works jointly with dogs and their handlers.
“I will also allow kids over the age of seven to act as handler of their own dog, but a parent has to be present,” she said.
The cost per class is $25, and after six courses, dogs can graduate from the beginner’s course.
Ruderer says she has always loved animals.
“When I was in junior high and high school I volunteered at a vet clinic,” she said. “I am a member of APDT (Association of Professional Dog Trainers) and I take online classes and I’m certified.”
