For the first time in more than two decades, Erath County has a new judge.
Alfonso Campos was elected to the post Tuesday night in a hard-fought runoff against Shelby Slawson.
Campos received 54.62% (2,327 votes) and Slawson received 45.38% (1,933 votes).
Early voting numbers were so close, in fact, county officials decided not to release them, opting instead to only release the final results.
“I’m ecstatic. Our hard work came to fruition,” Campos said following his win. “The team just came together and they pushed, pushed, pushed to get the vote out. Hats off to my team, they were superb.”
Incumbent Herbert Brown was defeated in his bid for re-election to precinct 2 by Albert Ray, who received 58.33% of the votes.
Jim Buck will become the next commissioner of precinct 4 after defeating John Wooley.
Buck won with $64.69% of the votes.
