Joshua Allen Daniel, 30, was sentenced to 30 years in prison Monday by District Judge Jason Cashon following his plea of guilt for his June 9, 2017 escape from the Erath County Jail (third degree felony) and plea of guilt to burglary of habitation (second degree felony) — each offense carried a 30-year sentence recommended by the state and will run concurrently.
Daniel escaped the jail by climbing through the chain-link dome that covers the recreational area and was picked up by his girlfriend nearby.
“Within hours, the Erath County Sheriff’s Department, with the assistance of the Stephenville Police Department, DPS and Tarrant County law enforcement agencies, located Daniel in Fort Worth hiding in a dog house where he was apprehended without incident,” District Attorney Alan Nash wrote in a statement. “While a third degree felony normally carries a maximum sentence of ten years in prison, Daniel’s past criminal history resulted in the punishment range being enhanced.”
Erath County Sheriff Matt Coates immediately had the jail fence repaired following the escape.
