Enjoy a hamburger lunch at the second annual Burgers for Backpack Buddies taking place from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, April 6, at the Stephenville City Park pavilion.

Meals are $5 and will include a hamburger, chips and dessert.

“We feed about 250 kids in Erath County on the weekends,” said Backpack Buddies board member Daryl Salyards. “The school feeds them breakfast and lunch during the week, but they just need some help getting through the weekends.”

Weekend food for each child costs $30 for six weeks, $90 for a semester and $180 for the school year. Kids enrolled in any county school (grades pre-K through 12) are eligible to enroll in the program.

“This organization is blessed that we have no overhead or administrative expenses. Because of that, 100 percent of your support and donations goes directly toward filling hungry bellies — a true opportunity for hand to mouth giving,” Salyards said. “The mission is simple, but the task is huge. Because of this reason we are asking for everyone’s support on April 6 to stop by and grab a burger, adopt a student, or just stop by and say hello.”

Delivery and drive-thru will also be available for those who would like to support the cause, but can’t get away or stay during the event.
