When Cody Keith entered the world of law enforcement 15 years ago, he never dreamed he would rise to the rank of captain.
But that’s exactly what happened.
Keith was recently promoted to captain of the Erath County Sheriff’s Office and will now oversee jail operations and patrol.
“I never knew if I would get to this point in my career, but I am overjoyed to get this chance,” Keith said.
Keith, 35, began his career in 2003 working in the Hamilton County Jail. In 2005 he became a deputy, then transferred to Erath County in 2009.
Before his promotion to captain, Keith was a sergeant investigator with CID.
“This was the next step for me,” he said.
The road, however, hasn’t been easy.
Keith has battled cancer three times and is currently receiving chemotherapy once a week.
“This was an easy decision for me,” Sheriff Matt Coates said of the promotion. “I have watched how Cody conducts himself in law enforcement and how well he communicates with the public and staff. He took the reins immediately and is already doing a great job.”
Keith says he is looking forward to his new role in the department he loves.
“I can never repay the people of Stephenville who have supported me and my family these past few years,” Keith said. “I look forward to doing my best and serving the citizens of Erath County.”
