A Hispanic male was detained in Stephenville on McIlhaney Street Monday afternoon after he led police on a pursuit that started near Johnson County, according to DPS.

“Preliminary information indicates the trooper was traveling west in the outside lane and was nearly struck from behind by a tan 2000 Chevrolet pickup truck,” Sgt. Dub Gillum with Texas Highway Patrol wrote in an email. “The trooper activated the emergency lights in an attempt to stop the truck, but the driver of the pickup chose to evade the apprehension.”

DPS confirmed Tuesday afternoon that the driver of the tan pickup truck was Derik Elmer Reyes, 22, of California.

“The driver lost control and struck a lamp pole and rock wall causing the truck to stop,” Gillum wrote about the pursuit coming to an end in Stephenville. “The driver was taken into custody without incident.”

Reyes was booked into the Erath County Jail for evading arrest with a vehicle.

“No injuries or damage was sustained to any other person or vehicle,” Gillum wrote. “The incident is under investigation and no additional information is currently available.”
