Lt. Sha King of the Stephenville Police Department announced Friday that he has refiled to challenge Stephenville ISD board member Sherrie Evans for place 2.

King had originally filed to run for place 1 held by Gary Sult — who will not seek re-election — but after Dr. Robert Barbee and Dr. Julie Howell also filed to run for place 1, King changed things up.

“I refiled after a lot of thought, prayers and conversations with my family and supporters and decided that Dr. Barbee and Dr. Howell share the same ideas for the school board as I do. So if the citizens are really looking for change, I think it’s good to give them more options and the opportunity to vote for two people with fresh eyes,” King said in a telephone interview with the E-T. “I still have a kid in school and my biggest priority right now is security in schools. That’s what I bring to the table, security and safety in schools.”

King, 49, has worked for the PD for 23 years. He graduated from Tarleton State University in 1993 with a degree in criminal justice.

He and his wife have one daughter, a junior at Stephenville High School.

“I want to be a voice for the kids,” King said in a previous interview with the E-T. “I want to make sure that all of the kids are being spoken for.”
