After starting it 25 years ago, Joyce Hillin’s annual Valentine Musical is still going strong and will be hosted this year by the Stephenville Music Club at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, at the Chapel on the Bosque.

“(Hillin) has moved away due to health reasons, but she wanted us to continue doing the musical so we do it in her honor” said Music Club reporter/historian Marion Cole. “She was always seeking out new and different talent. She loved putting this on. It was her gift to the community.”

The musical will feature 10-12 performances at the chapel, which is located on the Stephenville Historical House Museum grounds, and is free to attend.

“We have singers and instrumentalists and it’s all love songs — things appropriate for Valentine’s Day,” Cole said. “It’s so much fun and we have a really good time. The audience is always enthusiastic and we usually have a packed house.”

Cole will kick off the show herself with “Love is a Many-Splendored Thing” on the organ.

“I’ve been playing it for years,” she said.

The Music Club currently has around 30 members, but you don’t have to be a performer to join.

“You just have to love music,” Cole said.
