Dr. Robert Barberee filed Monday to run for place 1 on the Stephenville ISD board of trustees.

Barberee, 47, has been practicing dentistry in Stephenville since 1997. He also serves as the on-call team dentist for SISD and Tarleton State University athletics.

“I have been running my own practice for 20 years and I understand the financial side of operating a business,” Barberee said. “I am highly qualified to help run this school district.”

Barberee has two kids that graduated from Stephenville High School and has two other children currently enrolled in the district - a junior in high school and a 6th grader.

Barberee also serves on the district’s Facilities Committee and says he supports the $60 million bond proposal going before voters on May 5.

“School security is one of my biggest concerns. I want to make sure our students are safe,” he said. “And our facilities do need to be updated.”

Barberee is the third candidate to file for place 1, currently held by Gary Sult who is not seeking re-election.

Lt. Sha King and Dr. Julie Howell have also filed for the position.
