The 97th annual Veterans Day ceremony, hosted by Turnbow-Higgs American Legion Post 240, will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Erath County Courthouse.

In the past, the ceremony has been held at 10:30 a.m. The veterans parade will begin at 11 a.m. following the ceremony.

“The Erath County United Way will be there to serve coffee and donuts like they have in the past,” said Post 240 Commander Roger Easter.

The parade will move down Harbin Drive, turning onto Washington Street past TSU and end near Swan Street.

A new development that Easter is excited about is that Hardin-Simmons University’s Six White Horses will be in the parade this year.

“They will be a prominent member of the parade,” Easter said.

The Six White Horses have performed in millions of parades, rodeos and other public functions.

Parade entries will begin assembling at 9 a.m. in the Ranger College parking lot.

Veterans Day events will continue at 2 p.m. at Tarleton’s Memorial Stadium as the Texans take on Texas A&M-Commerce in Tarleton State University’s annual Veterans Celebration game with free admission to all veterans and active military personnel and their families.
