The Stephenville High School theatre has been working hard to gear up for their new comedy, “The Internet is a Distraction—OH LOOK A KITTEN!” and will put on a performance for the public at 6 p.m. Saturday at the high school.

Tickets will be $5 at the door.

The play is by Ian McWethy and is a comedy that explores the hole of distraction people go down when getting online.

SHS junior Cameron Bishop is the technical director of the play and is excited.

“I’m feeling awesome about it. I got to do most of the tech work and oversee the set and it’s just great to be a part of a program that likes to put on fun shows,” he said. “One of the challenges was making sure that our ideas were relatable to younger kids.”

SHS theatre will perform the play all day Monday for young SISD students.

The lead character, Micah, is played by SHS sophomore Kyla Carter who said she’s never done something this big before.

“I was chosen by Mrs. (Mindy) Pope for this role and I’m feeling nervous, but I have my lines down and I really think I can do it,” she said. “This is my moment to shine.”

To give you a visual, some of the characters include Facebook, Amazon, Click Bait, Google, YouTube, Pinterest and WIFI.

A more detailed description of the play, from Playscripts.com, states “Micah only has 20 minutes to finish her paper on The Great Gatsby. She just needs to check a few facts on the internet first. Unfortunately, the web is a nefariously wacky place where boxing cats, Facebook lurkers and pig-throwing games threaten to take over Micah’s schoolwork, or worse.”
