If you haven’t been to a concert yet this summer, or have but want more, then don’t miss two free concert events coming Thursday and Friday — the Texstar Ford Songwriter’s Show and the Shae Abshier CD fundraiser show.

This is the last Texstar Ford Summer Nights Concert Series event, which will kick off at 8 p.m. Thursday at Birdsong Amphitheater in Stephenville City Park.

“We’ll have Larry Joe Taylor, Davin James, Keith Sykes and Richard Leigh performing,” said owner of Texstar Ford Doug Montgomery. “Davin is well-known in this area. He’s a great singer-songwriter and of course Larry Joe’s got all the Texas music stuff happening and is very involved. Keith Sykes played in Jimmy Buffett’s band and wrote some of his songs and then Richard Leigh is in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame — it’s crazy how many top five and top 10 songs he’s written.”

Montgomery said the stage will be setup a little different this time allowing the public to get a closer view of the concert.

“These are guys who have written songs played by a lot of people and I love hearing how the guys wrote them,” Montgomery said. “We’ve had a great response this summer — the biggest crowds we’ve had.”

Another concert event will take place at 7:30 p.m. — doors opening at 6 p.m. — Friday at Larry Joe Taylor’s T-Birds Garage Pub at Melody Mountain Ranch.

The concert will be a CD fundraiser for Stephenville native Shae Abshier.

“I got invited to a concert in Austin a while back and went down where there were two or three bands playing. Shae was kind of an opening act to these big stars and I thought he was better than the big acts,” Montgomery said. “I was really impressed with his songwriting and singing. So I talked to Larry Joe about it and we’ve just tried to help him a little bit.”

The songwriters from Thursday night’s concert will hang around to play a second show after Abshier to help him raise funds for his new CD.

“It’s going to be free to the public and we’ll have a bucket at the door and will probably pass it around for donations,” Montgomery said. “All of the songwriters have told me they’re going to donate to Shae. It’s going to be a fun weekend.”

The concert will be held in the main room of T-Birds due to rain in the forecast.
