Since Jack Graham purchased Legend’s Country Club back in February 2015, a lot has changed.

“What most people don’t realize is the amount of money we have spent making improvements to the golf course,” said Brandon Sommerfeld, manager of Legend’s. “It’s close to $160,000.”

Now the men are turning their attention to another important piece to their vision of turning Legend’s into a more upscale country club.

“Good food is important to us,” Sommerfeld said. “We want to improve the golf course and we have. I haven never seen it in such good shape, but we also want to focus on the restaurant.”

The Lookout Bar and Grill as it’s called is located inside the main building and overlooks the 18-hole golf course. It even has a patio compete with twinkle lights for added ambiance.

But the improvements they have made have not been enough to entice more people to come for dinner - and that’s something Sommerfeld is working hard to change.

“We want the restaurant to be a place where people feel comfortable,” he said. “When you walk in we want to know your name and know what you want to drink. If you have a party of 10 coming out on a Friday night and want prime rib, call me and I will make it happen. I don’t think there are too many restaurants that would do that.”

Improved customer service, a friendly atmosphere and great food are what Sommerfeld is zeroing in on. And he has already started with daily food and drink specials.

“On Tex-Mex Mondays we offer free chips and salsa, specials on nachos, quesadillas and taco salads and $2 margaritas,” he said.

Then there is Two for Tuesday when people can get two main dishes like chicken fried steak or Texas schnitzel for the price of one.

But there are other things you may not know about Legend’s that might make you want to give the restaurant and golf course another try.

1. The Caddy Club: Every Monday about 5:30 p.m. kids and adults partner in a golf scramble. Just show up to play.

2. Tarleton Tuesday: Tarleton students get two for one on green fees. Legend’s also offers discounts on student memberships.

3. Ladies Golf Clinic: This begins on Saturday, Aug. 5. Registration takes place at 9:30 with free mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. The clinic will be held from 10-11 a.m. at a cost of $20 per person.

And oh yeah, there are also plans to build a swimming pool by next summer for members to enjoy.

Not a member? Legend’s will begin offering social memberships this fall with discounts on food and drinks.
