If you haven’t seen all the shenanigans surrounding the upcoming Handsome Hunks of Erath County competition, you’re missing a lot.

The hunky hopefuls are not only busy practicing their dance moves, they have turned to social media to spread their message on why they should earn the title of the most handsome man in all of Erath County.

And it’s hilarious.

Jon Koonsman was the first to post a video to Facebook following his first dance practice at Stephenville Dance Center.

In his video he said he was nervous about the practice, but that “it went better than expected.”

“It may surprise some of you, but I’m not overly familiar with hip hop music or dance,” Koonsman said in the video. “But once we got going, I really took to it. Eventually I looked in the mirror and it struck me all of a sudden that I was magnificent.”

His video was countered with additional ones starring Sheriff Matt Coates (playing the ukulele), Ryan Young (skydiving) and Michael Prather (making mad fun of all the others.)

“Thank you so much (Jon) for taking your weekly bath before dance rehearsal this week,” Prather said in his video. “I have enjoyed getting to know you over the past couple of weeks because I think having someone that is three times my age as a friend is a really, really cool thing.”

See what I mean? Funny stuff.

If you want to see how this mother of all competitions turns out (and I think you do), there is still time to purchase a table - but there are only eight left, according to event organizer Lisa Pendleton.

The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 18, at City Hall at City Limits. Proceeds benefit Erath County Meals on Wheels.

This year’s judges are Jana Jackson, Sandra Pack, Angie Nimmo, Carie Decker, Jennifer Muncey and Keri Vanden Berge.

The full list of men looking to dethrone last year’s reigning hunk, Joseph Borges, include VW Stephens, Sheriff Matt Coates, Brandon Huckabee, Byron Anderson, Jacob Fain, Jon Koonsman, Michael Brown, Michael Prather, Monty Stone, Phil Greer and Ryan Young.

Tables purchased from one of the guys helps their chance of winning - something Brandon Huckabee feels certain he is going to do.

“I should win because out of all the contestants, I am the total package,” Huckabee said. “I got the style, the moves, the smarts and the looks. But the main reason is I don’t wear sunglasses at night inside my house, play a baby guitar in nothing but thermals, wear my wife’s robe and towel while I drink wine out of a glass with my face on it or jump out of a perfectly good airplane like some of the weirdos in this competition.”

There you have it. It’s going to be fun.
